Happy New Years to all of you and your families! I wish you all the best this year! Make the most of it because life is too short!
New Year's eve was pretty exciting! I went with Junior, Junior's cousin, my best friend and my cousin skydiving. But wait, before you freak out I, myself, did NOT go skydiving. I mean c'mon people, I'm pregnant! I'm sure Bagel would not appreciate that! But I went along to watch and WOW!!! Before I had the attitude of "No way in hell would I EVER do that pregnant or not!" But I have to say, I think I have been turned. I want to do it! It looked like so much fun! And the people there (1-800-SKY-DIVE) were so cool and laid back and that seemed to really help with those jumping, especially the first time. So definitely, I think after Bagel is born I want to do it. Maybe next years New Years.
OK, but something else interesting happened. While we were at the sky diving place, I stood up at one point to take a picture of the four of them (and man do we have some awesome pics) and I felt this really weird feeling in my uterus. It caught me off guard and I just stood there with my hand over it and everyone was looking at me like, what? I wasn't sure... was that Bagel's first kick I felt? Or what the hell? I really didn't know. Well later on that day we went to my cousin's house for New Years and as I was explaining to her and another veteran mommy what I felt, I explained it was like my uterus tightened up for a few seconds but then it went away and it didn't hurt at all. They said it was probably Braxton Hicks contractions.
OK, wait. If you are like me, I was thinking that isn't it too soon to be feeling something like that? I mean I haven't even felt Bagel's kicks yet! Well thank God for the What to Expect When You are Expecting book!
When I got home, I looked up Braxton Hicks in the book and it's normal. Apparently you can start having them after the 20th week. Ok, technically I don't make 20 weeks until tomorrow but Junior pointed out that for one, it's only an EDD (Estimated Due Date) and two, The 20 weeks mentioned in the book is a guideline. It can be different for all. Thank God Junior's a nurse. haha! whew!
Anyway, it also said that normally when one feels it around the time I did, it's painless and goes away quickly. But basically it's your uterus preparing for the big day. And supposedly those get painful the closer you are to the big day. Well I haven't felt it since. Oh yeah! I also read it can be brought on by dehydration. I know... that's not good. But I think I may have been a little because as soon as I was able to drink something I could NOT stop! So I'm sure that may have had something to do with it.
Well that was my interesting pregnancy thing to end the year with. Who knew that I would feel that before a kick? Craziness.
Well hope you all had a great New Years eve and wishing you all an even bigger and better one for '08! Like someone told me on New Years, dance as if no one were watching, sing as if no one were listening and live everyday as if it were your last!!!! Here's to '08!
